SS Winter Uniform?

Hi there.

I am thinking of adding a couple of SS figures in camo. smocks but with white helmets.

Two questions. Do you know when the Germans stopped using
helmet decals, around 1943 I believe?

Also did the SS have a sleeve
eagle on their great coats? In particular the officers?

Thanks and cheers

Officially. Two decals were applied into 1940. In 1940 there were orders to remove the tri-colour shield and it was not applied to new manufacture. In Nov 1943 factories stopped applying decals to speed up manufacture.

Reality. None, one or two decals could be seen up to the end of the war. The removal of the shield was not rigidly enforced, especially among rear area and garrison troops. Also existing stock would be issued until depleted as well as the re-issue of "experienced" helmets with none, one or two decals.

The greatcoat would have the eagle, division cuff title (if applicable) on the left sleeve and likely the shoulder boards and collar tabs.

Cheers,
Rich
