The year is 1999 and at Preschen AB in Southern East Germany the excitement is palpable. In a few minutes the General secretary of the German Socialist Unity (SED), Mrs. Margot Honecker, will be landing to condecorate pilots from the Jagdfliegergeschwader 3 (JG-3) „Wladimir Komarow" for their bravery in the second Berlin Blockade.
Let's go back a Little (rather Long Story, if you have no time jump to the last paragraph):
In 1989 the whole communist block was at upheaval with popular demonstrations fueled by the Perestroika and Glasnost movements in the Soviet Union. To the Nomenklatura of the communist parties accross eastern Europe the Soviet Secretary General Gorbachaev was nothing less that a traitor which would eventually destroy the socialist dream. Also in the GDR the Politburo was very insatisfied with the rather weak Response of Mr. Honecker to the mounting protests. During that time his wife Margot was visiting Dresden in an official function when she met with a young KGB director named Wladimir Putin. Getting along extremely well, Mr. Putin was able to convince Mrs. Honecker that the socialist state both in Russia and in Germany had to be saved from the destructive winds of Change. Mrs. Honecker guaranteed the Young spy her Support as Long as he would Support her to ascend to the "throne" of the GDR.
A few months later Mr. Gorbachaev was attending the celebrations of the 40th aniversary of the Creation of the German Democratic Republic in East Berlin when his car was blown up by a carefully installed Landmine on the path of the car. Gorbachaev and his wife Raissa were instantaneously killed. Almost immediately most Units of the Soviet Army and Air Forces both in the USSR and abroad initiated what became known as the second russian Revolution. An even harder oppression was established in the USSR and its satellite countries, all forms of protest were severely punished with death, most Reform leaders like Vaclav Havel and Lech Walesa were summarily murdered. Putin, the Mentor of the whole movement, assumed control of the Soviet Union which, after having annexed Czechoslovakia, became known as the Checo-Soviet Empire.
Mrs. Honecker was Swift in deposing her weak husband and assumed control of the GDR. Protests in Leipzig and Magdeburg were repressed severely, and the world watched in Horror as Scenes of the carnage spread. The reaction of the West was forceful but fearing a nuclear war not much could be done but to futher expand sanctions against the Eastern Bloc.
In the next few years the consolidation of power of Wladimir I was complete. For her role in the second Revolution. Mrs. Honecker was granted in 23.07.1990 "supervisionary" control over Poland, Hungary, Romenia and Bulgaria. She was the second most powerful Person in the whole communist world. And at the same time she became obsessed with the idea of reuniting Germany once and for all.
Preparations began to take place in and around Berlin for a second Blockade, this time with no Access to air delivery for the allied powers. During the 90s, while the world was caught up in the Israeli-Iraqi War from 1993 to 1998 the East Germans developed their plans of a Blockade of Berlin leading to the capitulation of West Germany and the final Reunification. In that sense the NVA was being equipped with latest and most advanced Soviet Weaponry. This included a new Fighter, the Mig-39, which was conceived in 1983 and first flown in 1994 as the MFPI Project. The first Squadron to Substitute the old MiG-29 for the new MiG-39 was JG 3 in Preschen, followed by other Squadrons accross the Iron Curtain.
Finally in 1999 Mrs. Honecker was able to Launch her ambitious plan to cut off Berlin from the rest of Germany. She was sure that the US President and the Western allies would cave in and sue for peace within a few days. Squadrons of MiG-39, MiG-29 and MiG-23 were dispatched to the border and flew CAP missions during the whole day. West Berliners were given an Ultimatum: either become GDR citizens or face famine.
Little did she know that a secret Batch of state-of-the-art planes were being developed over many years in the USA. Using stealth Technology allied to hypersonic Propulsion and VTOL properties, the prototypes of the B-3 Liberator II heavy bomber, F-25 Mustang II Fighter and A-100 Thunderbolt III attack plane were already operational when the Blockade started. Within a few hours These airplanes were moved to West Germany while all NATO troops in the Region were mobilized.
F-35 and F-22 Fighters were the first to invade the airspace of the GDR on the night of February 31st, 1999. They were intercepted by JG-3 MiG-39 and Su-57, resulting in fierce battles over Southern Saxony. The German pilots managed to shoot down 3 American Planes while F-22 downed 5 MiG's.
On the next day an Invasion was expected. However, Berliners woke up to a strange Sound of a huge Bomber hoovering above their City. COmpletely undecteted, the B-3 arrived directly from the US over the East German capital. At the same time, the A-100 Thunderbolt III landed on the grounds of Mrs. Honecker Mansion in Willemsdorf, delivering an Ultimatum: stop the Blockade or face complete war with the probable anhilation of East Germany. Mrs. Honecker scoffed, since she was sure of the Support of Wladimir I and the Soviet Union. However, further 5 B-3 Bombers were dispatched to each Capital including Moscow, where Putin was receiving the same Ultimatum. Squadrons of fighters were ineffective against These hypersonic planes, which used laser Technology to destroy any Missiles or airplanes in a radius of 100km from the Bombers.
Faced with no alternative, Mrs. Honecker capitulated and Berlin was again a free City. She swore though, this Insult would not remain unpunished. The Soviets were already working on a secret Project of their own, the Ilyushin IL-200 Sturmovik II. The next confrontation would bring about the vengeance the Socialist bloc craved. Until then, Mrs. Honecker and Secretary Putin would move in the shadows of the Appeasement...

This is the MiG-39 from Jagdfliegergeschwader 3 (JG-3) „Wladimir Komarow" with a Special marking to celebrate Mrs. Honecker control of the other satellite countries in 1990. Armed with R-27 ET (AA-10 Alamo D) for Air-to-Air combat and a mix of X-31P (AS-17 Kripton), X-59M (AS-18 Kazoo) and KAB-500Kr bombs for ground attack These polivalent fighters joined the NVA in 1996. This particular aircraft (737) was responsible for the destruction of 2 F-35 during the second Blockade of Berlin.
