"Stand Down Shenanigans" Camp Bearcat, RVN 1967

Thanks, guys. I think the M151 is just about done. All it lacks is the antenna and the spare tire which will both be added later - the antenna after the jeep is attached to the base so it doesn't accidentally break off before then, and the spare tire after I make the unit insignia cover for it.

Since the last set of photos I added the handset for the radio, the windshield, and the mirror (which if you look closely, it has the reflection of the guy that will be standing on that side of the jeep).

I guess there is a limit for photos per post. Here are some with the reflection of the guy trying to stop his buddy from pissing on the seat.

Now to work on my favorite part - the figures!

Thanks for looking. Stay safe. Have a great day.
Cheers,
James

I haven't seen a setting for that but that's not to say there isn't one. Probably best to break them up anyway. Lot of mobiles hitting us now.

The Jeep is off the hook! The canvas seat covers just look freakin real. :notworthy

Thanks, guys. I am pretty pleased with the seats. I wish the rest of the model looked like them. :) Since I couldn't figure out to get the mirror to actually reflect images, I thought I would use the same technique I used in my "Young Entrepreneurs" vignette and just painted the image being reflected by the mirror. Now I must use that particular figure and can't change my mind on using him because I would have to change the reflected image. :)

Cheers,
James

Nice!!!! Those seats are awesome. How did you paint them? They look like some seats I sat in while manning the radio. Way cool (y) (y) (y) (y) (y) (y) (y)

Thanks, James. First I painted the seats with Vallejo Khaki with some Reaper Black Green mixed into it. Or perhaps it was P3 Rucksack Tan mixed with the Black Green. I don't remember that part. Sorry - multiple head injuries over the course of a 28 year military career can do that to you...:)
After the base color was painted on in several thin layers, I used whatever that base color was and mixed in more and more rucksack tan into the mixture for highlights I drybrushed on. For the final highlight I added some Vallejo Sunny Skin Tone. The seats were too tan looking to me, so I mixed together Vallejo Khaki and Black Green (I am sure of that one) and stipeled (I am sure I spelled that wrong) that on in the large areas of the seats to get the greenish tan color of the actual seats we have on the M151s we have at the Air Defense Artillery Museum here at Fort Sill.

I hope that explanation makes sense and helps.

Cheers,
James

Now that the M151 is as done as I can get it for now, I started painting figures. The first one is the angry MP who is about to tap the Grunt pissing on the seat of his M151 on the shoulder. First I painted the face with acrylics which consisted of Reaper Sunburn Flesh, Suntan Flesh, and Vallejo Shadows Flesh. The eyes were painted first and all of the darkest shadows were painted in black. Since I had some extra black left, I started to paint other parts of the figure as well.

Then I started painting the uniform. I painted a base coat of Andrea Color Olive Green mixed with Reaper Anti-Shine Additive. After that was dry (after a few light coats), then I outlined the details of the pockets, etc. in black. Instead of mixing the highlight and shadow colors and painting the entire figure one color at a time, I painted in small sections doing the highlighting and shadowing before moving on to the next section. I started with the left leg, then the left bottom part of the shirt, then the top left. I mixed Vallejo Sunny Skin Tone in increasing amounts with the Olive Green for the highlights and used black for the darkest shadows followed by Reaper Black Green, and Black Green mixed with Olive Green. In these photos, you can see that only the left side of the figure is highlighted and shaded.

And then here is the figure with the right side of the shirt highlighted and shaded as well as the back. The right leg and right sleeve still need to be done.

I will do that this afternoon. We are supposed to have some pretty severe weather here in Oklahoma this afternoon and evening, so I don't know how much I will get done.

Yes, he is pissed. Some drunk Grunt actually had the nerve to piss on the seat of his jeep.

I got the uniform and equipment finished. Note that his jungle boots are spit shined. I still need to put the decals on his helmet liner and then glue the helmet liner on his head, but I should have that done by this weekend.

LOL! That reminds me of something that happened to me a long time ago. I drove a VW Jetta with a sunroof and had the roof open a little bit. One day came out after work to get in the car and was assailed by an awful smell. A cat had jumped in an pissed on the driver's seat.

Luckily I had a Bissel upholstery cleaning machine at home and went directly there and attacked it. Managed to get it all out before it had become permanent. There was a cat that would have been ended with prejudice if I had caught it.
