1/48 B 17G if Luft 46 came true?

Well I like it....:pilot...Any previews on what the paint job will be like??

What could be nice here (and really in another world) would be one of those insane Piaggio P-108 Camouflage schemes from the regia aeronautica. That would be really cool.

Nice Job so far, looking Forward to your completion.

Cheers

Alex

Thanks for keeping me company on this!
I've got a wacky idea for the camouflage all right! No, no hints no tips!
Although with new engines I figured I should cobble together some more business like prop blades so I started with a bit of plastic and came up with this idea.

Now I've got to make a mold and start casting them, spinners and blades. The spinners wont be a big deal, just 4 of those but I'm thinking 3 or more likely 4 blades per engine with 4 engines? that's a lot of blades. Best quit griping and get to work

ok. in keeping with the idea of making a big mess grinding resin and plastic, I've relocated the (diesel truck) tail pipes out the backs of the nacelles. This involved drilling big jeezly holes in my nicely sanded and smooth wings so I could fit aluminum pipe to simulate exhaust outlets. While working there I figured no sense leaving the original radial engine exhaust pipe relief's on the nacelle's so I fitted so .005" sheet plastic over them to resemble riveted on scab patches. The mold is setting up on the first prop blade master, so I can carry on with the build while that side project is in progress.
Here's the wings with those big holes drilled and one side with the new cover fitted

As always, thank you for looking in

Thanks for looking and encouragement
Yes Christian, the super chargers are gone! I filled from inside with super glue and talc. Then filled and sanded from the outside till they were gone. But as with the panel lines (that I will be re scribing) the silver plastic remembers the image that was moulded in and it looks like is still there. Good for panel line reinstatement but hard to tell if I’ve rescribed them or not because I can see them but it might just be the image of what used to be there... know what I mean?
I’ll prime with acrylic, if lines disappear in the primer I can Windex it off and try again

To be truly believable removing all the weight of the radial engines and periphery would require a lengthening of the fuselage in front of the wing or a serious relocation of the c/g via weight re-distribution...

Heavier armament would do the trick too!

Regards,

Well, I guess it's been a while since I updated my build. So, most of the paint is on, even the drummer I march to is giving me odd looks now.
I went with a "my version of air superiority gray" I call cloudy sky. As well, I've come up with my own version of "false canopy" I call false Mustang (they need a bit of detail painting and such...possibly invasion stripes?) But, after all it is another world.

Yes Pup the false P-51's would have their own markings and oddly enough invasion stripes...possibly nose art even (the build is still young)
I hope to use decals for the call letters, although I may paint them on if required. A gloss coat is up next in anticipation of doing those decals.

Still having fun, can you tell?

That's hilarious! I never did understand that fuax cockpit on that old NATO Scheme, especially on the bottom of a BUFF.

That's soo cool! I can see it now, no german fighter would engage because he's got all those fighters flying escort!

And dig the defused camo up top. (y)
